Tasting Notes for Full Wine Club Line Up

2018 Sparkling Brut, Laurel Hill Vineyard

GOLD MEDAL AT THE SONOMA COUNTY HARVEST FAIR!
This is the sparkling that you celebrate everyday with! Exuberant bubbles bring the apple and white peach to your nose. These grapes are all from our estate, Laurel Hill Vineyard. With 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, this is produced in the methode champenoise, with four years fermenting in the bottle. This is a light and balanced sparkling with a luscious lemon finish. It threads the needle between brut (.5 and 1.5) and brut nature (0.0 to .5) with the residual sugar hovering at .55.

2022 Chardonnay, Laurel Hill Vineyard, Estate

This estate wine showcases a leaner style, fermented in stainless steel before being transferred to 2, 3, and 4-year-old barrels for aging. While we don’t inoculate for malolactic fermentation, some naturally carries over due to the older barrels, resulting in subtle hints of cream and butter. The wine retains the hallmark flavors of Laurel Hill—green apple, lemon-lime, and pear—offering bright acidity with firm, racy character. This is a light and refreshing wine without being insipid. It’s food-friendly and pairs beautifully with dishes like shrimp alfredo, where its acidity cuts through the richness and cleanses the palate between bites.

2022 Grenache Blanc, Rossi Ranch “Josephine’s Cuvee”

When introducing this wine to folks who are not familiar with this rhone varietal, Courtney describes it as if Viognier met a Sauvignon Blanc. With aromas of candied lemon peel and honeysuckle. This was one of the final harvests from 2022 and you can taste the maturity of the fruit. With ripe melon and hints of honey complementing the citrus without being overly crisp or floral. This wine was aged in neutral oak, which allows the beautiful qualities of this wine to shine.

2021 Grenache, Rossi Ranch, Sonoma Valley “Jeffrey’s Cuvee”

GOLD MEDAL AT THE SONOMA COUNTY HARVEST FAIR!
This wine is exclusive to our wine club! This 100% Grenache offers an incredible aromatic profile with cherry and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, it reveals fully ripe plum mid-palate, leading to a strawberry finish with just a hint of tartness. Aged in 20% new oak, it’s a lighter red, yet full of fruit and character—an excellent alternative to Pinot Noir.

This versatile wine pairs beautifully with dishes like duck, chicken, or your Thanksgiving feast. As winemaker Mike Berthoud puts it, 'Boy, that’s lovely.'

2022 Merlot, Pickberry Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain, “Tony’s Cuvee”

Described by Jeffrey as 'downright sexy,' this wine captivates with its deep, beautiful color. Harvested from the storied Pickberry Vineyard. Planted nearly 40 years ago on the cooler, north-facing side of Sonoma Mountain, which is adjacent to our Hollister Hill Vineyard, this Merlot fully benefits from the extended hang time, allowing for later ripening.

The result is a complex yet soft wine with good acidity and ripe fruit that’s perfectly balanced—never baked or overripe. Expect gripping tannins that add structure to this elegant wine.

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Delaney Vineyard “Janey’s Cuvee”

GOLD MEDAL AT THE SONOMA COUNTY HARVEST FAIR!
The palate is where this wine truly shines, with gripping tannins that define its structure. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine embodies the bold, chalky character of Old California and classic Bordeaux-style Cabs. From a hot year, it bursts with red fruit flavors and a firm backbone that demands to be paired with hearty dishes.

2020 Zinfandel, Ricci Vineyard, Russian River “Karen’s Cuvee”

GOLD MEDAL AT THE SONOMA COUNTY HARVEST FAIR!
This exceptional flagship red wine stands out as one of our finest offerings every year. Crafted with a blend of 40% new oak, which includes a mix of half French and half American oak. On the palate, it delights with delectable notes of ripe raspberry. The wine's character is elegantly framed by the influence of oak, starting from its enticing aromas and persisting through to the refined tannins in the finish.

2020 Meritage, Sonoma Valley, “Reserve”

Crafted from a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine exudes a seductive, earthy aroma with hints of blueberry from the Cabernet Franc. It embraces a refined elegance, balancing structure and finesse—neither too bold, tannic, nor overly fruity. The Malbec adds bright red fruit notes, while the Cabernets provide tannic backbone. On the palate, bold leather notes make it the perfect match for hearty dishes like roast chicken, rack of lamb, or Osso Bucco. A well-balanced masterpiece.

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Thomas Family Vineyard “Reserve”

Located adjacent to the Delaney Vineyard on Limerick Lane, this Cabernet is softer and fruit-forward, with smooth, ripe flavors and well-resolved tannins. It’s a beautifully balanced wine, offering an approachable, yet refined profile. This Cabernet is currently featured on the 2024 Harvest Menu at the Mayo Family Reserve Room. It’s paired perfectly with a smoked short rib slider and sour cherry BBQ sauce. Check out the recipe here.

2021 Malbec, Hollister Hill Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain “Reserve”

This Malbec presents a pretty color and classic strawberry hints on the nose. It’s a true expression of the varietal—ripe yet restrained, with a supple and balanced profile. On the mid-palate, you’ll find a subtle burst of fruit reminiscent of Bubblicious, though the tannins quickly rein it in, leading to a refined, long-lasting finish of about 45 seconds.

2021 Syrah, Page/Nord Vineyard, Napa Valley “Reserve”

This wine is exclusive to our wine club! This is an 'OH YEAH' wine, according to Rich. We’ve been purchasing grapes from this renowned vineyard in southern Napa, close to Yountville, for 20 years. Its ideal location offers a long growing season, ensuring the grapes are fully ripe but never overripe. This perfect ripeness results in mature flavors that are fleshy, with notes of black pepper alongside deep blue and black fruit flavors, complemented by hints of leather. After tasting this Syrah, it will be clear why we’ve maintained such a longstanding relationship with this vineyard.
